main /about POCH / history

The Company was established in Gliwice in 1948 under the name of "Fabryka Odczynników Chemicznych" or "FOCh" (i.e. Chemical Reagents Works) basing on a part of personnel, management and production equipment moved from the works in Zgorzelec.
FOCh, which on the beginning was subordinated to Zjednoczenie Przemysłu Nieorganicznego (i.e. Inorganic Industry Association), obtained the legal personality in 1950.
First products of the Works were sodium nitrite and silver nitrate for analyses. Up to the end of 1959 FOCh was selling its products using mediation of the Biuro Obrotu Odczynników (Reagents Sales Office).
In 1960 the new company was created by fusion of FOCH and Biuro Obrotu Odczynników, which assumed the name of Przedsiębiorstwo Przemysłowo-Handlowe "Polskie Odczynniki Chemiczne" or "PPH POCh" (i.e. Industrial and Commercial Company "Polish Chemical Reagents"). From that moment the Company started to act the key role in the chemical reagents branch.
In 1961 the Company was appointed as the leading enterprise in its branch and assumed coordination functions. During next years the Company took over most of the Polish production of reagents and substances of high purity level and developed its commercial activities.
The production range included approx. 700 products while the offer of imported reagents reached 20,000 items.
Growing expectations of Clients required systematic development of the Company's production infrastructure as well as storage and commercial ones, processes modernization, quality improvement and new products introduction.
To meet growing market demands the Company established the subsidiary company in Lublin, which in late 1980'ies was separated from the PPH POCh structure as the stand alone company according to the decision of Minister of Industry.
In 1992 POCh was converted to the Single-Ownership Company of National Treasure.
In 1995 the Company shares were brought into the National Investment Funds and the leading block of shares was assumed by the X NFI Foksal.
In 1998 the Company passed successfully the quality audit and was granted with the Quality Assurance System Certificate according to ISO 9001. During this year the Company developed the strategy for 1998-2002 which was systematically implemented. In 2001 the Company passed the quality recertification audit according to ISO resulted with granting POCh S.A. with the Certificate for further years.
In 2003 the Company ownership situation was changed. POCh S.A. left the NFI dominated structure and was taken over by the new owner. The majority owner is Euro Agro Centrum S.A. company, the member of Kulczyk Holding S.A. This change resulted in redirecting of the Company strategy, opening the period of extensive works on attractive development projects.
During last year (2004) the Company changed its name from Polskie Odczynniki Chemiczne S.A. (Polish Chemical Reagents Inc.) to POCH S.A. (i.e. POCH Inc.). Presently the works on a new company logo are going on.
